A New Path

I've grown a bit tired of this blog. Its structure its too rigid, four walls that limit my expression. My mild OCD won't allow me to mix & match in here. Everything is too lineal. It isn't that I don't like the content, just that I would like to try a more personal approach. Hence, I'm contemplating the annihilation of this space. I'm still thinking about it, but in the meantime you can visit my new blog: http://delimonysal.blogspot.com

The main difference? I'm expressing my feelings freely and I'm writing in Spanish.

Homophobic bullying leads two children to commit suicide

Browsing trough the day´s headlines I stumbled unto this one (courtesy of Feministe):
Another 11-Year-Old Boy Commits Suicide After Homophobic Bullying

that article lead me to this one (from Feministing):
The Consequences of Anti-LGBT Bullying

I'm perplexed. Two children in less than a month.

His Name is Brenda

Picture this...

I'm at work. A coworker whispers something I fail to understand. I look around. I'm distracted for a second (a very long second) because a very sexy woman is picking up her belongings next to me. The coworker insists:

"Psst..." He says.
"What?" I manage to mouth without moving my eyes from the beautiful woman in front of me.
"His name is Brenda," he says pointing to the androgynous goddess as she walks away and then adds "he is a she."
"I know," I answer as I resume my work.

An Ode to Google

I know, I know...

They want to take over the world and they routinely snoop on our lives. So what? I also have imperialist ambitions. Today they made me happy.

Why so happy? I just learned about a new experimental feature in Gmail that allows its users to "undo send". In their own words:

"Oops, hit "Send" too soon? Give yourself a grace period of a few seconds to cancel sending, then edit your message before sending again."

The bliss!

On the border

Sometimes I wonder if I´m dangerously close to the borderline. Today I sympathize with The Eagles:

Cruising down the center of a two way street
Wondering who is really in the drivers seat
Minding my business along comes big brother
Says, son, you better get on one side or the other.

I'm out on the border, I'm walking the line
Don´t you tell me bout your law and order
I´m trying to change this water to wine.

Firefighters Harrased During San Diego Gay Parade

In an interesting twist of events, four San Diego firefighters sued the city for being forced to attend a gay pride parade. The four men claimed that they were sexually harassed during their participation and blamed the city for forcing them to participate as its representatives. According to gay.com, "the jury agreed that that this constituted sexual harassment, and, since the firefighters were there (and subjected to that harassment) because of the City’s demands, the City was held liable". The group was granted $34,000 to be split between the claimants.
An informal poll on the same website shows that over 60% of their visitors agree with the verdict. It's interested to note that while most of the user comments on gay.com focused on whether or not they should have felt uncomfortable (some link their discomfort to homophobia, but most agree that they shouldn't have been forced to attend), the users of SignOnSanDiego.com (one of the sources used by gay.com) focused on the economic aspect of the situation.
